Shantideva’s Prayer

Working again with Shantideva’s Prayer,
this time in layers writing over a diluted wash of sumi ink.

I completed the main layers of lettering and then the piece
sat around my studio waiting for something I could add so that I could call it completed.
Eventually, I picked up a pilot parallel pen and wrote the red text.
I had originally intended to fill in the white horizontal “lines” with more of the prayer.
Perhaps this piece is still a work-in-progress.
Time will tell.

Written in many layers, mostly with flat brushes, I also used a ruling pen and a pilot parallel pen for the more gestural parts. On Fabriano 140# hot press watercolor paper. 44″ x 22″.
